Perfect Score from Oregon Health Authority’s Radiation Protection Services Division
May 15, 2025

These rigorous assessments, which evaluate radiation safety practices affecting both patient and employee well-being, concluded with perfect scores and no items of non-compliance noted—a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence in radiation safety. The audits ensure strict adherence to all applicable state laws, administrative rules, and best practices.
In Radiology, surveyors thoroughly evaluated all radiation-producing equipment, including Cath Lab, x-ray machines, portables, surgical C-arms, CT scanner and fluoroscopy systems. In the Cancer Center, assessments focused on the radiation treatment machine, planning processes, and CT scanner for simulations.
Maintaining exceptional compliance in these audits requires meticulous preparation and ongoing vigilance. Evaluators reviewed critical components of radiation safety, including:
• Proper equipment operation and preventative maintenance records
• Equipment dose and protocol settings
• Dose tracking efforts and compliance
• Annual radiation protection item inspections (physical and x-ray testing of over 140 radiation protection pieces [aprons, skirts, collars])
• Radiation Safety Committee activities and compliance
• Monitoring administered radiation doses by providers, across procedure types
• Fluoroscopy times and exposure tracking
• Employee dosimeter monitoring
• Health physics assessments for each piece of medical equipment
• Compliance with labeling and equipment licensing requirements
“Achieving flawless results in such a stringent audit reflects the dedication and expertise of our team. These efforts not only safeguard patient and employee health but also reinforce our position as a leader in radiation safety and compliance.” said Webster Cass, director of radiology.
