One Woman, Many Threads of Kindness

April 03, 2026

Since 2023, Sharron has driven to the hospital every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, faithfully bringing her husband to cardiac rehab. Over time, she became more than a familiar face—she became the heartbeat of the physical therapy waiting area.

I first sat down with Sharron to learn about her beautiful hat creations for the birthing center. What I found instead was a world she had quietly built: a place filled with smiles, warmth, and the kind of joy that can turn a waiting room into a community.

The tiny hats came first.

Years ago, as her knitting needles clicked rhythmically, someone from the Birthing Center stopped to ask what she was making. That simple question sparked a conversation and inspired an idea: newborn hats—soft, colorful, lovingly handmade treasures for WVMC’s newest babies.

As of March 12th, she had knitted 110 tiny hats, each one a bundle of comfort and love. Every few weeks, occupational therapist Joy Hallet, carries a fresh delivery to the Birthing Center, spreading Sharron’s joy to our newest community members.

But the hats are only part of Sharron’s magic.

While we sat together, people stopped by one after another, Linda, Neil, Dana, Simmon, Richard even CEO Dewane Pace, each greeting Sharon with genuine warmth. She met every hello with a personal question, a follow‑up from their last conversation, a little check‑in that showed she had been thinking of them. She didn’t just know people; she celebrated with them.

And then, with her signature ease, she folded me into the mix, introducing me, connecting me, making sure I felt like part of the family. Within minutes, we were all laughing, sharing stories, and connecting.

What might seem like three routine trips to hospital each week becomes something entirely different with Sharron. It becomes a place where patients, staff, and visitors are woven together through genuine connection—through every smile, hello, and tiny hat she creates.
