A Gift Crafted with Care for Our Newest Patients
July 10, 2026
The tiniest patients at Willamette Valley Medical Center’s Birth Center recently received a heartfelt gift thanks to the generosity and craftsmanship of the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers.
Carol Boyd, a member of the Portland-based woodworking organization, recently delivered a collection of beautifully handcrafted wooden toys to the Birth Center. The toys—including cars, trucks, animals, and other charming creations—were lovingly made by Guild members and donated to bring joy to families welcoming a new baby.
Each toy reflects the care, skill, and dedication of the volunteer woodworkers who created them by hand. Designed with smooth edges and timeless appeal, the toys are more than just playthings—they are keepsakes that families can cherish for years to come.
“We are so grateful to Carol and the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers for this thoughtful donation,” said Jennifer Von Derahe, women’s services director. “These handmade toys represent kindness, generosity, and community support. They will help create special memories for our patients and their growing families.”
The Guild of Oregon Woodworkers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing woodworking skills, craftsmanship, and community service throughout Oregon. Through projects like this, members share their talents in meaningful ways that touch lives far beyond the woodshop.
